“I tried to play a game. I tried to wield deceit as perfectly as the Hawks. But when I thought I was winning, I wasn’t. Jethro isn’t what he seems—he’s the master of duplicity. However, I refuse to let him annihilate me further.”
Nila Weaver has grown from naïve seamstress to full-blown fighter. Every humdrum object is her arsenal, and sex…sex is her greatest weapon of all.
She’s paid the First Debt. She’ll probably pay more.
But she has no intention of letting the Hawks win.
Jethro Hawk has found more than a worthy adversary in Nila—he’s found the woman who could destroy him. There’s a fine line between hatred and love, and an even finer path between fear and respect.
The fate of his house rests on his shoulders, but no matter how much ice lives inside his heart, Nila flames too bright to be extinguished.
Second Debt was not my favorite in this series or by Pepper Winters in general. Did I like it? Of course, I did. But I can’t help feel a little bit disappointed, sadly enough.
I thought the two precious books were fantastic as is my usual response to a Pepper Winters book but with this one there was a lot of going back and forth with Nila and Jethro. I get where both of them are coming from but at some point I kind of had enough of it. And it felt really short and rushed…
Nila and Jethro are still really good together, in my opnion, though. I love them both and in this book Jethro is opening up a little but and we finally meet the mysterious Jasmine. And there was a shocker I didn’t see coming involving her.
The second debt kind of shocked me. I’m not gonna lie, it was brutal but that’s what I like the most about this series – it being so shocking. But anyway, it’s making me wonder about the next debts and what they’re going to be.
The ending is what most left me feeling underwhelmed because if I’m not mistaken, it was almost exactly like the ending in Tears of Tess. Did anyone else notice that too or is it just me being crazy? I’m not sure. But that’s what the biggest issue was for me. If it wasn’t for Pepper’s incredible writing I probably would’ve liked it even less. I hate to say this, it kind of hurts my heart but that’s how I ended up feeling.
Pepper Winters wears many roles. Some of them include writer, reader, sometimes wife. She loves dark, taboo stories that twist with your head. The more tortured the hero, the better, and she constantly thinks up ways to break and fix her characters. Oh, and sex… her books have sex. She loves to travel and has an amazing, fabulous hubby who puts up with her love affair with her book boyfriends.
Her Dark Erotica books include:
Tears of Tess (Monsters in the Dark #1)
Quintessentially Q (Monsters in the Dark #2)
Her Grey Romance books include:
