Can’t-Wait Wednesday: Slayer by Kiersten White

Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and talk about the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. It’s based on Waiting On Wednesday hosted at Breaking the Spine.

Slayer by Kiersten White
Expected publication: January 8th 2019 by Simon Pulse

From New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White comes a brand-new series set in the world of Buffy the Vampire Slayer that introduces a new Slayer as she grapples with the responsibility of managing her incredible powers that she’s just beginning to understand.

Into every generation a Slayer is born…

Nina and her twin sister, Artemis, are far from normal. It’s hard to be when you grow up at the Watcher’s Academy, which is a bit different from your average boarding school. Here teens are trained as guides for Slayers—girls gifted with supernatural strength to fight the forces of darkness. But while Nina’s mother is a prominent member of the Watcher’s Council, Nina has never embraced the violent Watcher lifestyle. Instead she follows her instincts to heal, carving out a place for herself as the school medic.

Until the day Nina’s life changes forever.

Thanks to Buffy, the famous (and infamous) Slayer that Nina’s father died protecting, Nina is not only the newest Chosen One—she’s the last Slayer, ever. Period.

As Nina hones her skills with her Watcher-in-training, Leo, there’s plenty to keep her occupied: a monster fighting ring, a demon who eats happiness, a shadowy figure that keeps popping up in Nina’s dreams…

But it’s not until bodies start turning up that Nina’s new powers will truly be tested—because someone she loves might be next.

One thing is clear: Being Chosen is easy. Making choices is hard.

OH MY GOD YOU GUYS!! A BOOK SET IN THE WORLD OF BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER!!
I’m a HUGE Buffy fan (if that wasn’t obvious yet) so I’m absolutely thrilled that one of my favorite authors is writing a book set into this world that I love so much. And on top of that the story actually sounds really amaaaaaazing. I can’t wait to meet Nina, her twin sister Artemis and Nina’s Watcher-in-training, Leo, just ahhhhh! Also, the cover is freaking badass! 2019 seems far away but it’s already my most anticipated book of next year. And in the meantime I can just watch all seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer for the millionth time. ?

  1. Ahhhh yes, Kiersten White has circled back around to paranormal romance!! I loved her Paranormalcy series. And OMG a spin off from Buffy, that's awesome. Thanks for sharing this one!

  2. Buffy is airing here — second or third season, bc Spike just did the magic over Dru and she's back to her normal strength — and I am remembering how much I loved this show! I am not sure what to make of her being the last slayer ever, but I hope this is a great read!!

  3. For real???? Because I'm also a HUGE Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan, so you can totally get how thrilled I am, too!!!! Aaaand I'll have to make time for this <3 Thank you so much for sharing, Stephanie, you made my day! 😀

  4. WHAT???? A Buffy book?? OMG I'm so excited! I'm so glad I stopped by your blog, I don't know if I would ever have found out about this book. Can't wait! (I'm a huge Buffy fan as well, which you'll see if you visit my blog:-))

  5. Eve

Okay as I only watched all seasons of Buffy and Angel in the last 6 years I am so excited for this. I love the concept but with how the final episode went I'm not sure how this works but I'm curious to dive in and see.

    • I'm guessing we don't have to associate it too much with the tv show since this is book fiction but I'm curious to see how all that is handled as well. I really feel like rewatching Buffy and Angel now though. 😀

  6. AMAZING pick, Steph!! Although I've never watched a Buffy episode (can you believe it?!), I know I would enjoy doing so! Kick-butt females are always something I will LOVE either watching on the TV, the silver screen, or reading about in a book!

This novel has a fascinating spin on the Buffy story! I'm adding it to my GR shelves right away!!

Thanks for sharing!! Thanks as well for commenting on my own CWW post!! HUGS!!! <3 <3 <3 🙂 🙂 🙂

  7. This sounds so fun! I never really got into Buffy the tv series (although I do remember the movie!), but it's pretty cool that this is set in the same world!
