Monthly Wrap-Up — January 2021

Posted February 1, 2021 by Stephanie in monthly wrap up / 10 Comments

I don’t know if it was like this for everyone but for me the first month of 2020 went by incredibly fast. I read 8 books and some of them were better than others but in general I enjoyed all of them. I hope you all had a great first month of the year too. ?

The Alchemist and an Amaretto by Annette Marie — 4/5★
Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas (audiobook) — 3/5★

Druid Vices and a Vodka by Annette Marie — 4/5★
Hello Stranger by Lisa Kleypas (audiobook) — 4/5★

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab — 4/5★
The Turncoat King by Michelle Diener — 3/5★ (my review)

Devil’s Daughter by Lisa Kleypas (audiobook) — 4.5/5★
From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout — 3/5★

Favorite book of the month:

Listening length: 8 hours and 51 minutes

Although beautiful young widow Phoebe, Lady Clare, has never met West Ravenel, she knows one thing for certain: he’s a mean, rotten bully. Back in boarding school, he made her late husband’s life a misery, and she’ll never forgive him for it. But when Phoebe attends a family wedding, she encounters a dashing and impossibly charming stranger who sends a fire-and-ice jolt of attraction through her. And then he introduces himself…as none other than West Ravenel.

West is a man with a tarnished past. No apologies, no excuses. However, from the moment he meets Phoebe, West is consumed by irresistible desire…not to mention the bitter awareness that a woman like her is far out of his reach. What West doesn’t bargain on is that Phoebe is no straitlaced aristocratic lady. She’s the daughter of a strong-willed wallflower who long ago eloped with Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent—the most devilishly wicked rake in England.

Before long, Phoebe sets out to seduce the man who has awakened her fiery nature and shown her unimaginable pleasure. Will their overwhelming passion be enough to overcome the obstacles of the past?

Only the devil’s daughter knows…

I’ve waited so long to finally make it to West’s book in The Ravenels series and it was wonderful. Thinking about him I can only say ughhhh ? Phoebe was also a wonderful character and one amazing heroine. She and West were just perfection together. I love historical romance so much and I’m hoping to read the next book once I finish my current audio (A Vow So Bold and Deadly) that I have going. Can’t wait!

What was your favorite read of January?

  1. I read From Blood and Ash some time back, and really didn’t like it that much — though the rest of the blogging world was raving about it. So I was actually glad to see the 3/5 you gave this. :-p
And I’m seeing a lot of Annette Marie books these days. Looks like Urban Fantasy? Might give those a try, thanks!

    • I’ve read a lot of JLA books but From Blood and Ash definitely wasn’t a favorite. I liked it alright but didn’t think it was super amazing or anything. Didn’t stop me from buying the sequel because I’m curious where things will go, though. ?

Yes it’s urban fantasy. I hope to continue the series this month and finish it but I have a lot of books on my reading list so we’ll see.
