Monthly Wrap-Up — March 2021

Posted March 31, 2021 by Stephanie in Uncategorized / 19 Comments

I think I can speak for many people when I say What. A. Month, because it both felt really long but also short. We got another lockdown here in Belgium with more restrictions. I also can’t volunteer at the library until at least April 25 so that’s sad. But at least I read a whopping 9 books in March so that’s something at least. It definitely was a better reading month than February. I finally had my first 5 star read of the year and on top of that I had another 5 star read not too long after that. I’m really happy with the books I read because most of them were really great!

Impression by Charnjit Gill — 4/5★ (my review)
A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas — 5/5★

All of Me by Shannon O’Connor — 3/5★
A Few Wise Words by Peter Mukherjee — 4/5★ (my review)

Catullus’ Bedspread: The Life of Rome’s Most Erotic Poet by Daisy Dunn (audiobook) — 3/5★
The Mary Shelley Club by Goldy Moldavsky — 5/5★ (review to come!)

Women & Power: A Manifesto by Mary Beard — 4/5★
Broderick by Katee Robert — 4/5★ (review to come!)

Dark by Kat Kinney — 2/5★ (my review)

Favorite book of the month:

Nesta Archeron has always been prickly-proud, swift to anger, and slow to forgive. And ever since being forced into the Cauldron and becoming High Fae against her will, she’s struggled to find a place for herself within the strange, deadly world she inhabits. Worse, she can’t seem to move past the horrors of the war with Hybern and all she lost in it.

The one person who ignites her temper more than any other is Cassian, the battle-scarred warrior whose position in Rhysand and Feyre’s Night Court keeps him constantly in Nesta’s orbit. But her temper isn’t the only thing Cassian ignites. The fire between them is undeniable, and only burns hotter as they are forced into close quarters with each other.

Meanwhile, the treacherous human queens who returned to the Continent during the last war have forged a dangerous new alliance, threatening the fragile peace that has settled over the realms. And the key to halting them might very well rely on Cassian and Nesta facing their haunting pasts.

Against the sweeping backdrop of a world seared by war and plagued with uncertainty, Nesta and Cassian battle monsters from within and without as they search for acceptance-and healing-in each other’s arms.

Ugh, this book! Not only was I highly anticipating it but it was also very hyped by the bookish community so I didn’t want to have too many high hopes but ACOSF surprised me in the best way possible. It was a phenomenal read and dare I even say maybe even my favorite book in the series up until now? I just ADORED it!

  1. Things are starting to open up here more and when I hear about your recent tightening of restrictions and then France was in the news today . . . I can’t help but wonder if that’s what is in store for us next. Again.

Yay for a better reading month and 5 star reads! I read more than I expected this month as well. It helped that two of the books were short poetry collections. I’m working on my monthly wrap up. Did I have a favorite? Hmm. I liked everything I read. I’m waiting for the big fall because this can’t go on! LOL

I hope you have a great April! Happy reading!

  2. What a very busy March you had! 🙂 I read Court of Silver Flames too, though I still don’t like Nesta. And the Mary Beard and Catullus ones look intriguing, thanks for telling us.

  3. I’m sorry to hear about the lockdown. It does seem like we’re in the middle of another wave or something- cases are on the rise here too. Glad you had a good reading March though! Impression looks interesting, and The Mary Shelley Club as well!

  4. We are currently in lockdown where I live and I wish it was a bit stricter, tbh. It is hard, but we have to keep the numbers down. Fingers crossed that we can start to see some easing this summer!

So excited to see that you enjoyed ACOSF so much, Stephanie! I really need to get back into a SJM groove. The size of her books is just so daunting! :] Stay Safe <3

  5. I agree with your on ACOSF! And yes we are back in strict lockdown and that’s so bad! I hope we’ll get the vaccine to many of us soon enough to ease up on the restrictions!
