Seven Brothers. Seven Brides. A revenge seven years in the making.

I never wanted any part of my family’s revenge, but no one asked my opinion when my oldest brother handed out the Brides during Lammas. Now I’m saddled with Monroe, heir to the Amazon clan. She’s as deadly as she is sarcastic, and nothing like the woman I really want. Shiloh. My best friend.

The night Monroe and I consummate our handfasting is like nothing I’ve experienced before. It’s dark and brutal and intoxicating in a way I’m not prepared for. Which means it can never happen again.

But now, every time I turn around, I find Monroe and Shiloh together. She’s spitefully seducing my best friend, the woman I truly want, and there’s not a damn thing I can do about it.

I can’t have one without the other, but letting Monroe close might mean I lose myself completely.

This is the second book in the Sabine Valley series and Cohen’s book. To give a little reminder as to what happened in book one:

The first book started with the seven Paine brothers coming back to Sabine Valley after being in exile for eight years. The first thing the eldest brother, Abel, does is win fights against seven of Sabine Valley’s best warriors and win a Bride for each of his brothers and for himself too. It was the only way to gain back some of the power that they lost years ago. Cohen is the second oldest brother and this is his book.

I always have to catch my breath after finishing a Katee Robert book. She’s the queen of romance tropes so is it any wonder she’s one of my favorite authors ever?

I’m going to list the tropes that are in this book (that Katee herself has listed on social media) for those who are interested to know what they are:

“Forced” marriage,
Enemies to lovers,
Friends to lovers,
Good man gone feral,
MFF

Every single of these tropes was written so well and so spot on, it all gave me heart eyes!

The main characters almost literally took my breath away. I loved all three of them so damn much. Broderick, Monroe and Shiloh has got to be one of my favorite throuples that I have ever read about. It wasn’t near easy to get where they were at the end but it was all so worth it. What started as Monroe seducing Shiloh to mess with Broderick ended up being someday way more.

As much as I loved Broderick and Shiloh, Monroe has got to be my favorite out of all three. She absolutely stole my heart and I simply adored how she was with Broderick and Shiloh seperately but also when they were together all three of them. I just love how the author writes her characters, with flaws but the people they’re with always accept them with those anyway.

Katee Robert also never fails to make me excited for the next book in the series. We already saw some glimpses of Cohen, Winry and Maddox that made me really excited for Cohen’s book. The wait will be a hard one!

  1. I am impressed that the author managed to balance all those trope so well! And I have read so few books with a throuple in them, and I should really try and read more if I can.
