For millennia, men have told the tale of the woman whose face launched a thousand ships – but now it’s time to hear her side of the story . . .
As princesses of Sparta, Helen and Klytemnestra have known nothing but luxury and plenty. With their high birth and unrivalled beauty, they are the envy of all of Greece.
Such privilege comes at a high price, though, and their destinies are not theirs to command. While still only girls they are separated and married off to foreign kings, never to meet again. Their duty is now to give birth to the heirs society demands and be the meek, submissive queens their men expect.
But when the weight of their husbands’ neglect, cruelty and ambition becomes too heavy to bear, they must push against the constraints of their sex to carve new lives for themselves – and in doing so make waves that will ripple throughout the next three thousand years.
Perfect for readers of Circe and Ariadne, Daughters of Sparta is a vivid and illuminating retelling of the Siege of Troy that tells the story of mythology’s most vilified women from their own mouths at long last.
Unsurprisingly I’m coming with another Greek myth reimagining for this week. There are so many releasing this year and I’m SO here for it all! I’m especially excited for this one because it’ll feature Helen and Klytemnestra of Sparta. I can’t wait to get my hands on it!
If anyone knows any more myth retellings coming out this year feel free to tell me 😀
I like that last tagline for this: Two stories reclaimed <3 — I hope you enjoy it!
I love that too. Especially the stories of these two women!
Ooh, definitely adding this one to my TBR!
Yay!! 😀
I love the sound of this, Stephanie. I have noticed a lot of Greek myth retellings popping up lately?
If there’s a Greek myth retelling I’m all over it 😀
I love reimaginings like this! Hope you get your hands on it soon! My post is in the link below.
Can’t wait to read it!
I do like these reimaginings, especially when the come from the women’s perspective. I will keep my eye out for this one. It sounds really good. I hope you enjoy it when you read it!
Me too. I love how more and more like these are coming out.
Ooh, I knew Daughter of Sparta was coming out, but I didn’t know that there was also a DaughterS of Sparta as well? I am also a huge fan of Greek myth retellings, so this sounds great! I hope you enjoy it! 🙂
YES! Similar titles but two different books. More to read! 😀
More ancient Greece! I feel a bit maxed out on feminist Greek myth/history retellings, but this one does sound really interesting so I might have to see if I can find it in the library when it’s released. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
Yes! I am here for centering women in these stories!
That’s one I want to read too!
I’ve been back on a greek mythology kick recently and the legend of Helen was always one of my favorites. Might add this one to my list
Oh I love Greek mythtology retellings and I especially love that this one features Helen and Klytemnestra!
