Hello everyone! It’s the end of the month once again so here’s my August wrap-up. I had quite a few 5 star reads so I’m really pleased with how my reading went. I got completely got up on The Guild Codex series, listened to three great audiobooks, re-read The Odyssey and found a new favorite historical fiction!

FAVORITE BOOK OF THE MONTH:
A Romeo & Juliet tale for Hamilton! fans.
In post-American Revolution New York City, Theodosia Burr, a scholar with the skills of a socialite, is all about charming the right people on behalf of her father—Senator Aaron Burr, who is determined to win the office of president in the pivotal election of 1800. Meanwhile, Philip Hamilton, the rakish son of Alexander Hamilton, is all about being charming on behalf of his libido.
When the two first meet, it seems the ongoing feud between their politically opposed fathers may be hereditary. But soon, Theodosia and Philip must choose between love and family, desire and loyalty, and preserving the legacy their flawed fathers fought for or creating their own.Love, Theodosia is a smart, funny, swoony take on a fiercely intelligent woman with feminist ideas ahead of her time who has long-deserved center stage. A refreshing spin on the Hamiltonian era and the characters we have grown to know and love. It’s also a heartbreaking romance of two star-crossed lovers, an achingly bittersweet “what if.” Despite their fathers’ bitter rivalry, Theodosia and Philip are drawn to each other and, in what unrolls like a Jane Austen novel of manners, we find ourselves entangled in the world of Hamilton and Burr once again as these heirs of famous enemies are driven together despite every reason not to be.
My review of Love, Theodosia will go up tomorrow! ?
? What was your favorite read of August?
Wow, looks like you had a good reading month! I will have to check out that Oplichters en Vervalsers book, it looks good and always in for a new non-fiction read! My favourite book of the month is It’s Behind You by Kathryn Foxfield. So spooky and scary!
Oplichters en Vervalsers is my favorite Belgian author. I met him once even!
What a great reading month! Hope it continues into September!
Let’s hope I’m on a roll!
I had a really good August too, all 4 star and above which never happens, lol. I hope we both have fantastic Septembers as well!
Great wrap-up! My favourite read was Writers & Lovers.
Great job this month!! Hope September is just as good for you!
Lots of good books this month! I also read Devil in Disguise and enjoyed it.
Wow congrats on having multiple 5 star reads!!
Thank you! 😀 Some months I don’t even have one so this made me happy
Girl, I’ve had one this year!
Nooooo ?
Oplichters en Afpersers must have been very interesting! Now why did you give 3 stars to Annette Marie’s book? I am surprised!
Doesn’t happen often, I know! It was the first of Kit’s series and I think I still had to get into his POV and I didn’t love it as much as I had some of her other books. But after that the ratings just went up 😀
excellent wrap up, stephanie!!
You’ve had such a great month, Stephanie! I hope September will be just as great.
I hope so too!
I want to know from you, if Odyssey was a heavy book? It’s something that I’ve always wanted to try, but I am wary of melodrama, or references to other texts that may crop up. Unless this is an annotated version. Though, the 5-star rating from you is promising. 🙂
The first edition of The Odyssey I read (last year or the year before) was the translation of Emily Wilson and I gave that 4 stars which was really good but I liked the edition I read last month even more. It was the Penguin Classics Clothbound edition. There’s drama, though, in the story, especially towards the end but still a brilliant read!
So many five star reads! I am little bit jealous, to be honest! It has been a while since I have read a classic and The Odyssey is a great one to reread. I hope that September has some great reads for you as well! 🙂
