Haiku + Drawings = Haiga by Horacio Magnus was a lovely collection of haiku poems. Haiku is actually my favorite type of poetry and that’s why I was drawn to this book to read and review. I also really liked that it included illustrations. I’m always a big fan of art in books. I also didn’t know that this type of art form, the haiku poems and the illustrations together was called Haiga so I also learned something new.
Since Haiku are very short poems it’s a book anyone can easily read in one sitting, which is exactly what I did. The author did a great job of detailing so much with such short sentences and I really admired that. I will leave some of my favorites below so you can all get a taste of it.
My favorites:
Aegean deep blues
Walking by stones to refresh
Hot sand burns my feet
I love to write tales
Love walking whispering words
Love greens, also whites
Sweet moments we live
Wrapped in sun, birds’ trills and scents
Life is just a blink
Leaf blows up in greens
Hummingbird dancing around
Magic morning dew
I don’t read poetry, but I do love the haiku form, you can do so much with very few words! Thanks for sharing😁
Is “Haiga” an actual term? I read some haiku last year and it was wonderful. Now it seems I have to look up “Haiga” as well.
Yes it is 🙂
It’s been a long time since I read haiku poetry, a great reminder to get back into it!
I haven’t read that much haiku, but it is such a nice form of poetry! Love the examples you posted.
I loved the samples you gave us. Those poems are so vivid and descriptive.
This sounds like such a lovely book! I have always enjoyed this style of poetry. Thanks for sharing this one! 🙂
