365 Days of Gutsy Women reveals hidden stories of fearless females from the beginning of time. Traditionally women were kept out of history books or simply forgotten in our patriarchal culture. This book provides a daily glimpse into the lives of courageous women who have gone before us. You will discover their stories, one for each day of the year. On Wednesday, you may learn about Mary Anning, a British fossil collector who discovered dinosaurs. On Friday, read about Queen Nanny of the Maroons, an 18th century African who successfully freed more than 1000 slaves on the island of Jamaica. Sunday you may read about the Hindu Goddess Parvati, known as “Mother Goddess” representing a universal source of energy and power. Throughout the book, you’ll read of artists, musicians, educators, philosophers, rebels, authors, poets and innovators who fought gender, racial and religious bias.
The synopsis doesn’t lie when it says discover dozens of “hidden figures” on the pages of “365 Days of Gutsy Women” because I discovered so many amazing and groundbreaking women from history that I hadn’t known before. I was also very much pleased by the diversity of the women that were included. I also can’t help but praise the author, Rosemary Roenfanz, for writing this book because it seems like no small feat to write small biographies about 365 different women. Consider me impressed!
I’ve read my fair share of similiar books like this one. I always jump on the chance to read them since they’re just my kind of books. But I’ve gotta say 365 Days of Gutsy Women is definitely one of the best and one with the largest page number (426 pages!) I’ve read so far. Some of the women included in the book I had read about before but like I said I discovered many I hadn’t known yet and I absolutely loved learning about them all.
The world would’ve looked so much more different if it hadn’t been for these inspiring women. I can’t even imagine how courageous most of them had to be for the things they did and believed in. They definitely were gutsy women!
About the author:
After a career of running two different businesses, Rosemary Roenfanz began writing later in life. Upon reading Hilary and Chelsea Clinton’s The Book of Gutsy Women, she realized there were so many more fabulous females who needed to be recognized. Thus, 365 Days of Gutsy Women was born.
Writing during a pandemic was both challenging and exciting. Unable to travel to see her three children (Eric, Jen, and Charlie) and four grandchildren (Zane, Connor, Brady and Weatherby Rose) she kept busy with her reading/research, writing, music, feeding birds, singing in choirs, and hiking. An avid exerciser, Rosemary lives in Arizona’s Sonoran Desert with her beloved 16-year-old cat, Truman.
She welcomes hearing from friends and family as well as readers.
This sounds wonderful. I always love learning about women from history that I don’t know about, so this seems like a fun way to discover a bunch of them!
This sounds like my kind of book. So many hidden figures out there, and so many we’ll never know about.
I love history! And this sounds so interesting! I feel like there are many women that we hear about all the time in history–I like the idea of this–getting to hear about ones that may not be as well-known. Lovely review!
It’s always amazing to discover these important women that we didn’t hear about before!
This sounds so great and I love that these are actually hidden stories!
Oh wow!! This is such an intriguing book! I need to add some more non-fiction to my schedule and this sounds like a perfect addition. I am glad that it was such a wonderful read for you! 🙂
Honestly based on the cover I would never buy this book but knowing it talks about women who did history and are maybe not known by general public makes me want to read it!
