BOOK PAIRING

Pair up a nonfiction book with a f̶i̶c̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶t̶i̶t̶l̶e̶  podcast

The last two years I paired up a nonfiction book with a fictional but this time around I’m gonna pair them up with a podcast!

The book ↠ The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper by Hallie Rubenhold
The podcast ↠ Bad Women: Ripper Retold

I’ve only listened to the podcast, which is also hosted by Hallie Rubenhold, but when I learned that it was actually based on the book she wrote I knew I had to put it on my TBR. I hope to get started on reading it this month. There’s also a second season of Bad Women that I’m also currently listening to and that’s about The Blackout Ripper.

The book ↠  The War That Made the Roman Empire: Antony, Cleopatra, and Octavian at Actium by Barry Strauss
The podcast ↠ Ancient History Fangirl

This is one of my favorite books and one of my favorite podcasts. The ladies at Ancient History Fangirl don’t only talk about ancient Rome, they go into a whole lot of different and fascinating topics of the ancient world + they have interview+conversation episodes that I just love. Obviously I recommend the one with Barry Strauss. Right now they have a season going about ancient mysteries that I’m absolutely loving!

The book ↠ Little Girls Lost: True tales of heinous crimes by Eileen Ormsby
The podcast ↠ Voices for Justice

I really wanted to spotlight Voices for Justice and I thought it really fit with Little Girls Lost. The book covers four cases of teenagers that became victims. It’s a dark topic but a really great read. Voices for Justice is an excellent podcast hosted by Sarah Turney, who advocates for victims and their families. She also hosts the Parcast podcast Disappearances, which I’m also a fan of.

Have you read any of these books or listened to any of these podcast?
Can you recommend me any?

  1. Love, love, LOVE that you also paired podcasts with nonfiction, and on such an excellent selection of topics! I really enjoyed The Five and I had no idea that the author also had a podcast – immediately subscribed!

Ancient History Fangirl sounds amazing…I’ve generally struck out with most historical podcasts but that one sounds worth a try. Ancient mysteries is not something I can pass up!

Little Girls Lost sounds like a tough read but important, and I already know Eileen Ormsby would do justice by it. In case you haven’t come across it yet, her book The Darkest Web is outstanding. She’s also written some episodes of the podcast Casefile, about Australian true crime, that I used to listen to. I haven’t followed it much lately so not sure if she’s still doing so, but hers were always excellent.

Thanks for so many fantastic suggestions!!
