When you steal from the Devil, getting burned is half the fun!

When Kitty’s gambler father sells her sister into marriage to a notoriously cruel lord with three dead wives, Kitty will do anything to stop it. Including steal from the Devil himself.

What else is a bookseller to do? Kitty’s talents include giving literary tours of London and selling scandalous novels. If she has to find a murderer, she’s going to need all of the help she can get. Even if Devil is as disreputable and handsome as…well… the devil.

The earl created an empire for himself based on collecting debt vowels. Fortunes, inheritances, secrets… anything is fair game. No one crosses him.

Until Kitty.

She steals a vowel right from his pocket—and uses it to blackmail him into helping her save her sister. But no one steals from the Devil and gets away with it.

People beg for his mercy, his attention—anything he is willing to give. He might enjoy having Kitty beg. Even if he already knows she’d rather punch him in the eye. It only makes her more tempting. Irritating. Perfect.

Sometimes it takes both a Devil and a Spinster to stop a murderer…

This story features Kitty who already featured as a secondary character in the first book and Rhys, an earl who is also known as the infamous Devil, also a character we met in book one. The both of them together was FIRE. The banter was on point, the sensual as well as the sweet moments between them were well-timed and well-written. I loved them together so much. Kitty, however was my favorite to read about. She owns a bookstore that currates to the naughtier literature and how could I not love that? I wish I could visit her store.

Kitty will do everything to make sure her younger sister Evie is protected from being sold by her father into marriage to a terrible lord that happened to have two previous wives who all ended dead and one who went mysteriously missing. To make sure Evie doesn’t end up as a dead wife to the lord, Kitty steals from Devil and blackmails him into helping her.

One of my favorite moments in the book was a scene where Rhys heard Kitty’s aunt verbally abusing her, calling her stupid, etc. and Rhys just took Kitty out of that house even though these things aren’t usually done like that. He didn’t care what society would think, he just wanted to protect her and get her out of there. It was one of the many things I loved about this story.

A Deal with the Devil was a great second book in The Spinster Society series by Alyxandra Harvey. It had a good plot, amazing character development with both main characters, a scorching romance and smooth writing. Historical romance fans will love this book!

About the author:

Alyxandra Harvey lives in an old stone house in Ontario, Canada with a few resident ghosts who are allowed to stay as long as they keep company manners. She likes chai lattes, tattoos, and books.

Sometimes fueled by literary rage.
