“We met in a nightmare. The in-between world where time had no power over reason. We fell in love. We fell hard. But then we woke up. And it was over . . .”

RUIN & RULE

She is a woman divided. Her past, present, and future are as twisted as the lies she’s lived for the past eight years. Desperate to get the truth, she must turn to the one man who may also be her greatest enemy . . .

He is the president of Pure Corruption MC. A heartless biker and retribution-deliverer. He accepts no rules, obeys no one, and lives only to reap revenge on those who wronged him. And now he has stolen her, body and soul.

Can a woman plagued by mystery fall in love with the man who refuses to face the truth? And can a man drenched in darkness forgo his quest for vengeance-and finally find redemption?

I liked Ruin & Rule for sure but I have to admit that it isn’t my favorite Pepper Winters book. Maybe my expectations were a bit too high because I usually love her work but there were just some things that bothered me. Still, this is a good read, it just wasn’t enough for four stars.

The book started out great. It’s dark and twists like I’m used to with any book by this author, which I love. One of the more negative things of this book is the female main character. I’m not going to use her name because that would actually be a spoiler. But yeah, I didn’t like her and it’s hard to fully love a book when you highly dislike a main character.

As for the male main character, I mostly liked him. Mostly… At times I couldn’t quite stand him but then went back to loving him in the next chapter. It was really up and down for me with him. I just got really frustrated whenever he kept saying he needed time before he could explain everything to hell. I like some mystery but enough is enough. It bothered the hell out of me.

The amnesia thing with the female main character was also a bit eh for me. Sure, it brought some intrigue but again it was a thing that bothered me. And another thing, most of the book was just about him and her being together. I wish there would’ve been more about the actual Pure Corruption MC. I love biker books but there wasn’t enough about it, in my opinion.

But you know what? Pepper Winters’ writing made up for most of the negativity. Her writing is so goddamn beautiful that I almost don’t care about the things that bothered me + there were some pretty steamy scenes.

I hope I didn’t discourage anyone with this review because I’m a huge fan of the author and most other readers seemed to have loved it. I was just one of those people who thought it wasn’t the best ever. I still think it’s a book worth reading, though and I am definitely gonna give the second book a shot.
