The Devil craves beauty. Even in himself.
The vampire will make magnificent promises and I will say yes.
The man I give my heart to will steal my soul.

Syrsee
My grandma gave me these words of wisdom just before she died.
Then she told me to run.
Because if the old witch is dying, then he needs a new one.
And that’s me.
This is my curse.
I am the vampire’s power.
I am the vampire’s strength.
I am the vampire’s food.
And he is very, very hungry.

Ryet
I hate him, but I crave him.
I want to be rid of him, but I also want him next to me.
I want to feed on him and sometimes I dream about him feeding on me.
It feels like a trick. Like abuse.
Like Stockholm syndrome.
But it’s not. It’s just… the blood.
I am the vampire’s scion.
I am the vampire’s slave.
I am the vampire’s future.
And he will never let me go.

Paul
I am the vampire.
Once you make a deal with me, it’s done.
There’s no going back.
Once I bite my lip—
Once I bare my teeth—
Once I let it drip—
He’s mine.
She’s mine.
And together we are blood lovers.

Blood Lovers is a dark, seductive journey into a world where the blood runs black, the dreams are purple, and the demons aren’t just dangerous, they’re beautiful. Masterfully told by New York Times bestselling author, JA Huss—it’s a book that will change the lore forever.

“That’s how they get you, darling. With the beauty. Never forget, Syrsee. The Devil craves beauty. Even in himself.”

Blood Lovers is told in three different points of view:

Syrsee, a Black witch who has been hidden from an evil vampire, who wants her for her special blood. Now that her grandmother has died, the protection also falls away and Syrsee has nowhere to turn anymore.

Ryet, the vampire’s scion, who has been hunting Syrsee. He hates the vampire but the seductive and enticing nature of the vampire is much too strong for Ryet to resist.

Paul, the vampire, who now that the old witch has died he can finally see the face of the new one who has been from him for so long. He will hunt her until he gets what he want.

This story was so captivating, so beguiling and sensual, it was very hard to put the book down at the moments where I just had to. I loved the three different points of view and I honestly can’t pick a favorite out of them because they were all so good and absorbing to read. Also, this was a very dark read so be aware. All of the characters were getting betrayed left and right which made this story quite the rollercoaster of emotions.

Paul was a very very evil character but I also liked him in a way that I couldn’t help myself. Maybe that was just part of his allure because don’t get me wrong, he is a literal monster who has done a lot of fucked up things to get where he is now, especially what he’s doing to Syrsee and Ryet.

Ryet was an equally intriguing character. We know that his wife and three children have died many years ago in a not quite accidental fire. When he was at his lowest point, Paul swooped in and made him his scion, his slave essentially. Ryet has hated Paul for this for years and yet he hungers for him.

Syrsee was also a characters that I loved reading about. She knows that the blood running through her veins is evil and that the vampire is looking for her. And then she runs into Ryet. Both don’t know who the other is but they have an immediate burning attraction to each other and they fall for each other.

This would’ve been the perfect five star read for me if it wasn’t for the insta-lust between Syrsee and Ryet. It made more sense as the story went on and more things were revealed but still it felt pretty damn fast for me and lately I’m more of a slow-burn romance girl. Still, this was just a minior thing and I did really end up loving Ryet and Syrsee. I really rooted for them throughout this book and hating on Paul for everything he did to them because wow, that shit wasn’t very fun to say the least. It did made this story very twisty, sweeping me from one emotion to the other so I can only applaud the author for giving me all those feels.

So this was my very first book by J.A. Huss and I’ve got to say it most certainly won’t be my last. Blood Lovers was one of the most unpredictable, original and unputdownable vampire books I’ve read in years. It was dark, sexy and oh so twisty. I simply loved it.
